Find Out Your Options to Dispose of Old Furniture

Disposing of old furniture can be time-consuming and backbreaking. Many furniture pieces are large, bulky, and heavy. If you’re planning to move, replace your furniture and reorganize your living space, you need to know how to efficiently dispose of old furniture.

Aside from selling the old furniture, here are other options you can explore that will effectively remove some of the clutter in your home.

Other options for getting rid of old furniture

It will be a good idea to take an inventory of the furniture you want to discard and other items you want to throw out. You may have furniture items that are still in good condition, which can be donated or recycled. If the things have many scrapes, tears, broken and chipped parts, set them apart as good candidates for disposal. You now have a good idea of which items to dispose of and which items to donate.

Rent a dumpster

Your local government may have a dumpster you can rent. Otherwise, rent one from a junk removal service company, which can drop off the dumpster at your preferred location and pick it up once it is full. You can throw away most of the junk that you want to discard with a dumpster, along with the broken and damaged furniture. Find the size of the dumpster you need, based on the number of items you have to discard.

You should also check with the local government the allowable limits for dumpster size, weight limits, and other restrictions. Understand that you will personally load the dumpster. Loading does not have a limit so that you can work at your own pace. They have a fixed rate, so you know how much you are going to spend.

Consider curbside pick up

You can choose this option if you only have a few and small pieces of furniture to discard. However, it is important to check with the local authorities if curbside dumping is allowed or if there is a specific place where you can bring the items. Likewise, check if there will be an extra charge if the trash collection service hauls old furniture. You need to check the limit on the number of items they can collect, a specific time when they do bulk pickups or if you have to seal upholstered furniture in plastic.

Hire a junk removal company

If you prefer professionals to handle old furniture removal, hire a junk removal company. They will give you an estimate, remove the items you want to discard, and haul them off in their truck. Their workers are trained, they have the right tools and equipment, and they see to it that they do not damage your house or your other furnishings. Best of all, you do not have to do any heavy lifting.

Your other options are to bring the old furniture to a scrap dealer or a landfill. For these options, you may need to use a larger truck to bring the items yourself. These organizations do not have junk pick up services.
