We are less than a week away from the much anticipated start to the Premier League season and now that most of the transfer dealings have been completed it is time for industry expert Bogoljub Karic and I to take a look at who will be the champions come May 2020. This year has been widely speculated as being a 2-horse race but that would be incredibly boring, which is why we are going to look at the 4 teams who may very well have a chance in the coming year.
Liverpool
The title has been predicted to go down to a battle between Liverpool and City, and whilst that seems probable, Liverpool cold certainly run into trouble. The Reds had very few significant injuries last year, something which could affect their campaign this season. Players like Mane, Salah and Firmino all arrived to pre-season late after the AFCON and the Copa America, which could present an issue in the first couple of games. Liverpool haven’t invested and the lack of attacking support could curtail their chances. We expect them to finish 2nd but wouldn’t be surprised if they fail to replicate last season’s form.
Tottenham
Spurs had a genuine chance in this coming season and looked set to show that after the capture of Tanguy Ndombele early on in the transfer window. In classic Spurs style however they have sold Trippier and failed to replace him, look weak at wing back on both sides and are in the middle of a debacle with Eriksen, with no replacement ready. Spurs have in fact had an awful window and this is why they won’t close the gap on their rivals and will end up scraping into top 4.
Chelsea
Despite the transfer ban this is still an outstanding side who could definitely push for a title challenge win the coming season. New manager and club legend Frank Lampard may not have the experience of winning a title but he certainly has the players to do so. If he can unlock the abilities of Pulisic and Barkley, and if players like Hudson-Odoi and Abraham can hit the ground running, this is a team which could very well challenge Liverpool and City, we have them down to push until March, then slip away to 3rd spot.
Manchester City
We just cannot see any reason why City won’t win their 3rd league title in as many years and although they may have lost talisman Vincent Kompany, we just can’t see any reason why City won’t find another gear and once again dominate this season. This is a side with the hunger to win and with a rich depth of great ability on the pitch and on the bench. City will not only win this season but we expect them to do so unbeaten, such is the sheer quality and desire which this team has.
Which way do you see the Premier League season going? Let us know in the comments.
